What you’ll be doing
Atturra is seeking nine (9) experienced Exercise Planners to support the Australian Army’s Combat Training Centre (CTC) in developing, coordinating and supporting advanced collective training activities.
These roles work within Core Events planning teams to support the design, organisation, and execution of complex land training activities. Exercise Planners ensure training events are well structured, relevant, and aligned with learning and readiness outcomes for Army and joint training audiences.
As an Exercise Planner, you will:
- Integrate with Core Events planning teams to support exercise design and preparation.
- Develop structured exercise planning material, including plans, briefing content, coordinating information, and activity documentation.
- Attend planning meetings, working groups and training design forums.
- Assist in developing activity concepts and supporting the alignment of training objectives.
- Coordinate planning inputs related to scheduling, movement, scenario factors, and activity level planning requirements.
- Support preparation for major training events, including administrative and organisational planning requirements.
- Contribute to activity management during execution phases when required.
- Assist with post activity reviews and continuous improvement processes.
- Maintain accurate and compliant exercise files and documentation.
Working Environment & Conditions
- Primary location: Lavarack Barracks Townsville, embedded with Core Events
- These are Permanent Full Time roles
- Engagement profile:
(1) Up to 220 days in FY26/27
(2) Up to 110 days in FY27/28 - Some extended working periods may occur during major activities
- Travel to Defence locations including Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney, and training areas
- Standard Defence induction, access and administrative protocols apply

What will make you successful in this role?
- Experience equivalent to O3–O4 military level competence/capacity (having been a CAPT/MAJ is not a pre-requisite)
- Demonstrated background in military planning at Combat Team to Brigade level or higher
- Experience in staff planning, exercise design, or training support within Army or Defence environments
- NV1 (SECRET) security clearance or above
- Strong understanding of Army training frameworks, planning processes, and staff systems
- Ability to produce clear, accurate planning documentation
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working in multi disciplinary planning teams
- Ability to use or quickly upskill on common planning and office software
- Willingness to undertake Defence related travel (up to 15 trips annually)
- Ability to work in barracks, headquarters, and field environments as required
