What you’ll be doing

The Senior Network Engineer will be a key technical expert within the Atturra Managed Services team, responsible for designing, implementing, managing, and troubleshooting complex network solutions for a diverse range of clients. Based in the Sydney office, this role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of client networks while providing high-level technical expertise and mentorship to junior engineers.

The role also involves client interaction, requiring a strong focus on delivering exceptional service and solutions tailored to client needs.  

The successful candidate will primarily work from our office when not required on client sites, ensuring strong collaboration and accessibility. 

 

Key Responsibilities:
 

Network Design and Implementation

  • Design, deploy, and maintain robust network architectures, including LAN/WAN, SDWAN, wireless networks, VPNs, and firewalls, to meet client requirements.
  • Perform upgrades and migrations for client networks with minimal disruption to business operations.

Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex network issues, including performance bottlenecks, outages, and security breaches, both remotely and onsite.
  • Act as a technical escalation point for the technical services team.

Client Support and Advisory

  • Collaborate with clients to understand business requirements, proposing tailored network solutions and optimizations.
  • Conduct periodic health checks, network audits, and capacity planning to ensure optimal performance.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain detailed documentation for network designs, configurations, changes, and incident resolutions in the ITSM system.
  • Generate reports on network performance and provide insights to clients and internal stakeholders.

Mentorship and Leadership

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Level 1 and Level 2 engineers, fostering skill development within the team.
  • Lead technical discussions, training sessions, and workshops to enhance team capabilities.

Compliance and Best Practices

  • Ensure network solutions comply with industry standards, client policies, and legal requirements.
  • Adhere to and enforce change control processes for network modifications.

What would make succesful for this role? 

  • Minimum of 10 years in network engineering roles, preferably within an MSP environment.
  • Experience managing network projects end-to-end.
  • Availability to work in a rotating on-call schedule for critical incident response.
  • Flexibility to travel to client sites across Sydney and regional areas as needed.
  • Flexibility to travel interstate for work on a mutually agreed basis.
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

 

Technical Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of network technologies, including Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Aruba, Palo-Alto and other enterprise-grade systems.
  • Strong understanding of routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), switching, VLANs, and QoS.
  • Experience with cloud networking solutions (e.g., Azure, AWS) and SD-WAN technologies.
  • Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls (Palo Alto, Check Point, Sophos, Fortinet), including policy creation, VPNs, and threat prevention.
  • Strong understanding of security frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls), intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS), and Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW) capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with vulnerability management, threat intelligence and endpoint security (EDR/XDR, Sophos Intercept X)
  • Familiarity with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, log analysis, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, ACSC Essential Eight).

 

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex network issues using logical, systematic approaches.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, SolarWinds, PRTG) and packet analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark).
