Cloud Engineer

Date: 8 Sept 2026

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, AU, 2000

Company: Atturra

What you’ll be doing

Atturra is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Engineer to join our Cloud Business Solutions team.

Role Purpose:

The Cloud Engineer is a hands-on technical member of a small migration factory team that assesses, builds and migrates applications and workloads from on-premises environments to Microsoft Azure. Because the team is compact, the role owns workloads end to end: from discovery data in Azure Migrate and cost estimates in the Azure Pricing Calculator, through Terraform-based deployment of target infrastructure via Azure DevOps pipelines, to cutover, hypercare and decommission sign-off.

Program Context:

Atturra is delivering a Azure scale migration programmes for Australian Government client. The programme validates workload inventories, conducts detailed application and infrastructure assessments, uplifts code for small and simple applications, and confirms migration patterns for each workload category.

Workloads are then batched into migration waves grouped by business criticality and dependency. Each wave is executed under an agreed governance framework, applications are then deployed, tested/validated and approved by the client. The programme closes with as-built documentation, knowledge transfer and handover to steady-state operations.

It is also a non-negotiable requirement to have an active AGSVA NV1 Security Clerance for the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Discovery & Assessment: Deploy and configure Azure Migrate (appliances, discovery, dependency analysis and assessments) to validate the workload inventory and produce readiness and right-sizing recommendations.
  • Cost Estimation: Produce target-state cost estimates using the Azure Pricing Calculator and Azure Migrate assessment outputs, covering compute, storage, networking, backup and licensing options (e.g. Azure Hybrid Benefit, reservations and savings plans).
  • Migration Approach: Recommend the migration pattern for each workload (rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, etc.) and contribute to wave grouping based on dependencies and business criticality.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Author and maintain Terraform/Bicep configurations to deploy target workload infrastructure into the landing zone consistently and repeatably.
  • Pipelines & Deployment: Build and operate Azure DevOps repositories and YAML pipelines for workload deployments, including plan/apply stages, approval gates, remote state, service connections and environment promotion.
  • Migration Execution: Run replication, test migrations and production cutovers using Azure Migrate within CAB-approved change windows, following agreed runbooks and rollback plans.
  • Application Uplift: Support code and configuration uplift of small and simple applications so they run correctly on Azure.
  • Testing & Validation: Work with application owners to test and validate migrated workloads, and record outcomes, exceptions (such as deferred OS upgrades) and rollback records for wave closure reports.
  • Hypercare & Decommission: Provide support during each hypercare cycle, resolve post-migration issues, and confirm decommissioning of source systems.
  • Documentation & Handover: Contribute to runbooks, as-built documentation, SOPs and knowledge transfer to the client's operations teams.
  • Security & Compliance: Work within the client's Azure subscriptions under privileged access, in line with the client's security policies, the ISM and the Essential Eight.

Working Conditions:

  • On-site
  • Location is open to all major capital cities
  • Permanent /Contract
  • Active AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance a MUST

  • Demonstrated, practical experience with Azure Migrate: appliance deployment, discovery, dependency analysis, assessments and server migration (replication, test migration and cutover).
  • Proficiency with the Azure Pricing Calculator to produce defensible, well-documented cost estimates and compare options.
  • Proficiency in Terraform and Bicep, including module composition, remote state in Azure Storage, environment separation and the azurerm/azapi providers.
  • Working experience consuming Azure Verified Modules (AVM) for Terraform, including version pinning and composing resource and pattern modules.
