What you will be doing? 

As Lead Architect – Cloud Migration Programs, you will own the end-to-end architecture of Azure migration engagements for Australian Federal Government clients, from discovery and design through to migration and optimisation.

You’ll operate across both strategic and hands-on delivery, engaging senior stakeholders while working closely with engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges.

We’re looking for someone with proven experience delivering large-scale cloud migrations, not just certifications.

Responsibilities

Architecture Leadership

  • Own target-state Azure architecture, ensuring alignment with ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight
  • Apply the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF), including landing zones and 8Rs rationalisation
  • Produce key architecture artefacts and govern design through review boards

Migration Delivery

  • Lead discovery, assessment, and migration planning (including wave plans and runbooks)
  • Oversee execution, resolve technical escalations, and ensure delivery quality
  • Drive post-migration validation, optimisation, and risk management

Security Architecture

  • Design secure Azure environments (networking, identity, and hybrid connectivity)
  • Support IRAP readiness and align solutions to government security controls

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as the primary technical advisor to senior client stakeholders (SES, CIO, CISO)
  • Facilitate workshops, briefings, and governance forums

Practice & Commercial

  • Mentor team members and contribute to capability uplift
  • Support pre-sales, including solution design and RFP responses
  • Contribute to reusable assets, standards, and best practices

Working Conditions:

  • Predominantly office-based in Canberra
  • Permanent full time
  • NV1 clearance 

What will make you successful in this role?

Candidates who can show a track record of leading complex cloud migration programs in real environments will be considered ahead of those who cannot.

You will have:

  • A strong background in enterprise or solution architecture, across vendor/integrator and government or enterprise environments
  • Hands-on experience delivering end-to-end Azure migrations (discovery, assessment, execution, and post-migration)
  • Solid knowledge of the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework, including landing zones and workload rationalisation (8Rs)
  • Experience applying Australian Government security frameworks (ISM, PSPF, Essential Eight) in real-world cloud solutions
  • Confidence engaging senior stakeholders (SES or equivalent) on technical and strategic topics
  • Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and providing architectural governance
  • Strong technical depth, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues directly
