What you’ll be doing
Start your consulting career working on real Defence challenges
Atturra Advisory is seeking talented and motivated graduates and early-career professionals who are interested in building a career supporting Defence experimentation, analysis, wargaming and capability development.
This is an opportunity to move beyond a traditional graduate role and contribute to meaningful Defence activities while developing the consulting, analytical and professional skills that will underpin your career.
You don't need to arrive with years of experience. We are looking for people with the aptitude to analyse problems, curiosity to understand complex issues, willingness to learn, and confidence to work collaboratively with Defence, industry and multidisciplinary teams.
What you'll have the opportunity to do:
Working alongside experienced consultants, Defence personnel and industry specialists, you may support activities including:
- Defence experimentation and analytical studies;
- military exercises and experimentation activities;
- wargaming and workshop activities;
- qualitative and quantitative data collection;
- data preparation, curation and analysis;
- survey development and administration;
- stakeholder workshops and engagement activities;
- analysis of observations, results and evidence;
- preparation of reports, briefs and presentations;
- development and maintenance of datasets, analytical artefacts, experimentation records and evidence bases; and
- presentation and communication of findings to project teams and stakeholders.
Depending on the project, you could find yourself helping prepare an experiment or wargame, supporting data collection during an activity, analysing information, identifying trends and observations, or helping turn the results into clear and useful findings.
What we're looking for
We're particularly interested in graduates who can bring a curious, analytical and systematic approach to solving problems.
You don't need to have done all of these things before. We're looking for candidates who can show the potential, interest and capacity to develop in these areas.
Ideally, you'll have:
- an interest in Defence, national security, experimentation, wargaming, research, data or analytical problem solving;
- the ability to approach problems logically and systematically;
- an interest in working with qualitative and/or quantitative information;
- the capacity to support data collection, research, surveys, workshops, exercises or analytical activities;
- the ability to interpret information and contribute to analysis, reports and presentations;
- strong written and verbal communication skills;
- good attention to detail and an ability to maintain accurate records and information;
- confidence working collaboratively as part of an integrated team;
- a willingness to learn from experienced Defence, industry and consulting professionals; and
- have, or have the ability to obtain and maintain, an NV1 security clearance.
Who might suit this opportunity?
We are open to graduates from a broad range of disciplines. Your degree matters, but how you think, communicate and approach problems matters just as much.
Relevant areas could include:
- Data Science, Data Analytics or Statistics
- Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics
- Defence or Strategic Studies
- International Relations or Security Studies
- Intelligence or National Security
- Psychology or Behavioural Science
- Operations Research
- Business or Commerce
- Economics
- Information Technology
- Project Management
- Social Sciences
- Research or other analytical disciplines.
Experience with Defence is not essential. Exposure through university projects, research, Defence service, the Australian Defence Force Reserves, cadets, internships, volunteering, simulations, gaming/wargaming, data projects or other relevant activities may be advantageous.
The Atturra Advisory Graduate experience
The Atturra Advisory Graduate Program provides a stepping-stone into a career in consulting, combining structured professional development with opportunities to contribute to genuine client work.
Built around our Better Consulting concept, your development will focus on four core principles:

Over the course of the graduate experience, you'll develop practical consulting skills while learning from experienced members of our Advisory team.
Alongside Defence experimentation and analysis work, you may also:
- undertake qualitative and quantitative research;
- contribute to reports, presentations and other client deliverables;
- support project planning, kick-offs and delivery activities;
- assist with workshops and brainstorming sessions;
- support business development activities;
- contribute to bids and proposals;
- maintain project management information and tools;
- work with internal stakeholders and senior leaders; and
- support the broader Advisory team in delivering high-quality client and project outcomes.
Why Atturra Advisory?
For the right graduate, this is an opportunity to learn by doing.
You'll have the opportunity to develop your professional consulting skills while gaining exposure to complex Defence problems, analytical methods, experimentation and multidisciplinary teams.
We are particularly interested in graduates who enjoy asking why, are comfortable working through ambiguity, can bring structure to complex problems and want their work to contribute to meaningful outcomes.
If you're intellectually curious, enthusiastic about Defence and interested in developing a career at the intersection of consulting, experimentation, analysis and national security, we'd like to hear from you.
