What you’ll be doing

We are seeking a highly skilled System Engineer with the ability to work in a demanding environment with an enthusiastic sense of customer support, you will need to communicate and coordinate with clients as well as other technology groups in a complex environment.

 

The role will involve:

  • Messaging & Server Support: Delivery of advanced technical support and administration for on-premises Exchange, Exchange Online, and complex Exchange Hybrid deployments, alongside general Windows Server environments.

 

  • High Availability & Recovery: Maintaining, testing, and optimising backup, high availability

(e.g., Exchange Database Availability Groups), and disaster recovery capabilities for critical

messaging infrastructure and servers.

 

  • Lifecycle Management: Executing patching, applying Cumulative Updates (CUs), and performing system upgrades for Exchange and underlying Windows Server operating systems in strict alignment with security policies.

 

  • Vendor Escalation & Troubleshooting: Liaising with vendors, such as Microsoft, and other service providers to investigate and resolve intricate mail routing, hybrid synchronization (e.g., Microsoft Entra Connect), and core server infrastructure issues.

 

  • Documentation: Assisting in the creation and maintenance of a robust knowledge base, including comprehensive "as-built" documentation for messaging architecture and server builds.

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer with a strong focus on Microsoft 365 and identity management, combined with the ability to work in a demanding environment and an enthusiastic dedication to customer support. You will need to effectively communicate and coordinate with clients, as well as other technology groups, to manage complex cloud, identity, and infrastructure ecosystems.

The role will involve:

  • M365 and Entra ID Support: Delivery of advanced technical support, administration, and policy configurations for Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, alongside managing Exchange Hybrid deployments and general Windows Server environments.
  • Identity & Access Management: Configuring and supporting Entra ID conditional access policies, multi-factor authentication (MFA), hybrid identity synchronisation, and secure access controls.
  • Roadmap Execution & Lifecycle Management: Executing patching, system upgrades, and driving continuous improvement by following established strategic roadmaps for environment remediation and infrastructure optimisation.
  • Vendor Escalation & Troubleshooting: Liaising with service providers and leveraging premium Microsoft support (facilitated by IWL) to investigate and resolve intricate M365 issues, core server infrastructure challenges, and any remaining complex Exchange escalations.
  • High Availability & Recovery: Maintaining, testing, and optimising backup, disaster recovery, and data protection capabilities for M365 tenants and critical server infrastructure.
  • Documentation & Incident Management: Assisting in the creation of robust "as-built" documentation and knowledge base articles, while ensuring the timely resolution of platform access and server performance incidents against defined SLAs.
  • Other Duties: Undertake other technical, project, and administrative duties as required to support the broader operational objectives of the Managed Services team.
